PROFILE CUTTING ON CYLINDRICAL RODS by using BOSCH hole saw

PURPOSE

In fabricating, a profile consists of the more-or-less complex outline of a shape to be cut in angular or normal profile of aluminium alloy or steel tubes. In modern practice, a drawing office determines the shape and dimensions required to fit the tube into a larger work and feeds directions to a computer controlling a profile cutter.

 

 

Brief Methodology 
  1. First, we designed the vice which has 1 inch of slot according to lathe machine various dimensions.

2. The vice is clamped to the tool post of lathe machine with the help of six M6 Bolts .

3. Then we obtained the geometrical drawing of profile cut section for tubes at various angles to determine the accuracy.

4. The pipe is inserted in the slot of vice and HSS tool is fitted to the spindle side inside the jaws of chuck. In this process the tool is rotating and the object to be machined is stationary. The tool used should be of the diameter of the pipe to be attached to the machined pipe. In this technique we can also give the angle to the rod thus profile cutting can be also done in various angles.

Design specifications:

  1. a) Vice material: Mild Steel (MS)
  2. b) Profile cutting tool:- The tool is made of HSS material, 1 inch of OD and having cutting edges along its circumference.
  3. c) Lathe Machine:- Four jaw chuck lathe machine.s

Profile Cutter –

High-Speed Steel cutting tools are subjected to intense friction, high heat and extreme wear, and are required to have high wear resistance, high hardness, and high red hardness to combat these problems.

High-Speed Steel (HSS) cutting tools are made of high-speed steels such as M-1, M-2, M-4, M-48 and T-15. They are also used to cut and shape tool steel and high-speed steel into a tooling component.

HSS Cutting tools are available in many shapes and sizes to perform a wide variety of cutting and forming operations. These HSS cutting tools are formed from a blank of high-speed steel into a cutting profile and then hardened and tempered to HRC 62-68. These cutting tools are usually fixed into a machine using a collet, chuck or tool holder providing a rigid connection to the machine.

Cutting tools perform many functions from cutting a block of raw material to drilling a hole to shaping a profile to finishing a close tolerance dimension. HSS cutting tools are used in nearly all types of machining operations.

Finished Product-

By using profile cutting tool this joints of two pipe is made and this is used for various joints in chassis and the triangulations of proper alignment.
